Much of the plant had been in operation for 50 years or so and as a result of proposed re-zoning, and the need for increased flows the site needed an upgrade.
The MEICA upgrade contract (£650K) involved the installation of two new Firle booster pumps (90kW), the construction of a temporary pumping station, new main MCC, remote MCC and kiosk for bore hole 6 (90kW), new Surge Vessel and the associated pipe-work, services and cabling. The contract was run by us under CDM 2007 regulations.![]() The increased flow (70l/s) meant that 3.7km of pipeline from the site to Firle Reservoir had to be reinforced and along with other site works required a separate civil contractor to be appointed with whom we had to work very closely and in particular we had to supervise and joint a cable along the entire length. ![]() Two major challenges of this contract were to maintain station output, necessitating the construction of the temporary pumping station and the installation of 550m of direct buried cables, which taking into account it’s value and the exposed site conditions required completion in a working day.
